Zhen completed her little book, titled "How to draw...".

She started this little book sometime last year...

SURNAMES

8th February 2011, Tuesday Afternoon

Lee Zhen was asking me why is this Friday, a school holiday?

Me:  (explained about the Hokkiens prayers to the Jade Emperor "拜天公"")

LZ:  Are you a Hokkien people?
Me:  No, I'm a Cantonese.  Your father is a Hokkien.
LZ:  Then, I am what people?
Me:  You're a Hokkien.
LZ:  Why I am not a Cantonese people?
Me:  'Coz you follow your father.  Just like your surname, you followed your father's surname, Lee "李".


LZ:  Mummy, next time I want to marry a Low, "羅".  Then my children can have your surname.  I don't know what people lah... but the surname is Low, like you.

DOODLING TIME

Doodling time after watching DOODLECHAMPS! on TV.

Art is important becuase it encompasses all the development domains in child development.  Art lends itself to physical development and the enhancement of fine and gross motor skills.

Art activities help children's social and emotional development.  It helps them build self-esteem.  It is an opportunity for children to make a personal statement about their uniqueness through art while allowing them to express happiness, joy and pride. 

Art is important because it allows children to be CREATIVE.  Each piece of artwork is individual and original to each child.  Children have their own thoughts and ideas of how things should look and they come to art with their own unique experiences. 

It is important to make art activities open-ended.  Open-ended experiences are success-oriented because there is NO ONE RIGHT WAY to do something.  Open-ended art acitivities are motivating for children of all development abilities.  They build feelings of independence, confidence and an eagerness to learn.

All children really need to draw/doodle/scribble are:-

1) a blank piece of paper

2) a writing instrument (pencil/pen/crayon)

TEA PARTY

While I was in Penang, holiday-ing... my elder daughter, Lee Zhen, drew these few lovely drawings to pass time...

A happy family goes to a party & telling people how old they are.

A little girl goes visit the crab, the fish & the worm on a rainy day.

 Lee Min wanted her sister, Lee Zhen, to draw a her a house.

Lee Min was very happy after Lee Zhen drew this picture.
