"The function of the child is to live his own life - not the life that his anxious parents think he should live, not a life according to the purpose of the educator who thinks he knows best."
~ A.S. Neill, founder of Summerhill School.

MATHEMATICS

18 July 2013, Thursday

LZ: Mummy, my year is what?
Me: You are 9-year-old, and this year is 2013.
LZ: Yeeee... want me to do maths only!

Today, a similar question was raised.
LZ: Mummy, what year were you born?
Me: This year is 2013 and I'm 41.
LZ: Again, want me to do maths... this mummy ah!

She then went into her room and came out after a short while and asked,
"Mummy, that means all my friends in my class are 2004, right?".
"That means all your friends in your class is?".

I kept quiet and ignored her question.  (I'm not answering that!)
She moved on to the whiteboard and did the subtraction.

COUNTING 1-10

22nd April 2010, Monday Evening
Min already knew her 1-10 but she simply do not want to say it, when asked.

During bed time, she would ask me to sing 'ABC'.  I would then ask her to say her '123' first.
She would go, "1, 2, 3".
When I asked her, "Then?".
She would go, "Then?".

Today when her father gave her some coins to be put into her piggy bank.  She sat by her piggy bank, counted her 1-10 quietly while putting in the coins!

44 - 39 . . . "NO HANDS"

30th September 2009, Wednesday Night
I went grocery shopping with my 5-year old, Zhen. The cashier charged me RM44 for the duo pack of milk powder... but I remembered that I saw a RM39 sign at the shelf.  When I was busy checking it out with the cashier, Zhen just kept bugging me with… what happened mummy..... what’s wrong.....
I told her, that the girl charged mummy some extra money…
Zhen: How much, mummy?
Me: 44 - 39, how much?
Zhen: 44… no hands wor… 39 also no hands… how to count??
